Yusuke - Great. This really could’ve been on some old screamo/emo sampler. Yusuke is a new 3-piece screamo band from around Illinois. Think of bands like Orbit Cinta Benjamin, Violent Breakfast, The Walls You’ve Built or Louise Cyphreand you know what to expect. Sounds perfectly rough and aggressive…combining really straight-forward emoviolence/screamo parts with cool interlude/intro-sections. “Reflections of a Life Once Had” is my personal fav. The track has a really catchy riff and some awesome moments like:

“What I would give to have my fucking life back?”

Amazing to see this guys playing that style so uninhibited, emotive and intense (lyrics, screaming…). Hope they don’t change this messed up beautiful noise on their upcoming new releases.

Elesh Norn - I’m truly speechless.

Well…Elesh Norn is a new 4-piece screamo band from denton, tx with members of father figure.

Take a seat. I mean…that sound. Fuck. This. is. amazing. It crushes through your ears with a blend of old-school screamo, dreamy 90’s-emo-like interlude guitar-parts and vocals which remind me of Jayson Green (Orchid), Rich Lombardi (Cloacal Kiss, The Sawtooth Grin) and some depressive black metal bands. Sounds kinda fresh and like something where I feel pretty comfortable. A warm but very aggressive and massive sound.

Everything just overwhelms you with such a fury and gloomy heaviness. I can’t get my finger off the repeat button. Too intense (the lyrics are so beautiful and heartbreaking). Too captivating. Too good.

Screamo EP of the year? New hope for a stagnating genre? Yes and Yes. This band is pure gold.

“none of this will matter when we’re dead in the end, but i swear that i’ll love you until then.”

Highly recommended.

Like most people, we love making fun of emo. Because well, emo is funny. So we collected the cheesiest, wussiest, sappiest emo lyrics of all time and put them in one place.

How does a lyrics make the list? Well, it should be totally cringeworthy. Basically, every time you hear it, you should want to puke your guts out over how cheesy it is. Usually, that consists of some failed attempts at expressions of love. Godawful metaphors also earn points. References to things like hearts, tears, and sadness are also a plus. Basically, anything that sounds like it was written in a college Introductory-Level Creative Writing Class. Some of these are by great musicians. Others are by talentless hacks. Some are by bands that fall into the “emo” genre. Some are just particularly “emo” lyrics.

For help, we teamed up with Tom from WashedUpEmo.com as well as some of our emo-savvy friends, and you, the good people of the Internet, to compile a list of the cheesiest emo lyrics of all time. In no way is this a definitive list. There are enough break ups and lame attempts at similes in the world to hold us over for the rest of eternity. Great debut release by a 4-piece dark hardcore/crust punk band hailing from germany. Appeals all pretty decent…very aggressive, shredding and emotive. Somewhere between Angstzustand and Ekkaia. The sound is pissed of, raw and fast but yet very very infectious with its kinda moving guitars, alternating vocals (“angst oder vernunft”) and well-written lyrics.

Ehm yeah…I’m a huge fan of “blender”…short, devastating, in-your-face and totally furious song. Love it. This 5 track - EP is all in all a greatly auspicious beginning and I hope you’ll like them too.

Highly recommended

Atmospheric Black Metal - Sorry to say this but I never was a huge fan of the first (Bathory, Celtic Frost, Morbid Angel) and second (Marduk or Satyricon) black metal wave. I do like Darkthrone’s “Transilvanian Hunger” but that’s it haha. I’m more into that atmospheric emotional stuff and was uttly amazed by bands like Extinction, Der Weg einer Freiheit, Ash Borer, WITTR or Austereover the past years. They really impressed me with their captivating and raw sound. It’s a trend nowadays. That’s for sure. It’s hip, it’s dark, it’s evil, anti and bla but who cares, the music is still great. Found 3 awesome relatively new bands which I wanted to share with you guys, hope you’ll like them too.

Barbelith - s/t

Let’s start with an 4-piece ambient black metal band hailing from Baltimore, Maryland called Barbelith. They did a quite splendid work on this first EP. Their sound incorporates post-rockist/ambient parts and crushing raw black metal sounds. I really dig the guitars in “Underfed Limbs of Heritage” (what a beautiful built-up intro) and “Under a Waning Moon”. Vocals are harsh and kinda depressive, which sounds damn fine. “Inward Quest” surprised with some “clean vocals”. These 5 tracks are sorta mean and fast but also pretty melodic refined with some midtempo parts. Awesome debut.

Sun Worship - Surpass Eclipse

Great 3-piece band from Berlin/Germany. After a s/t cassette and a split with Earth Chaos, Sun Worship currently released a pretty decent record called “Surpass Eclipse”. It’s by comparison with the self-titled debut by Barbelith more straight forward, more soaring and a bit faster. Taking influences from a lot of USBM bands (mainly Wolves In The Throne Room) to coalesce everything into a stunning hybrid of angry and atmospheric sound-walls. They know to play their instruments very well. Talented guys. What a bummer that “Surpass Eclipse” contains only 2 songs. Waiting for more. Both “Castle High” and “Eclipse” start with a turbulent beginning. Sounds always like a immense advancing storm. Actually…they got kinda everything a good atmospheric third-wave black metal band needs…the raging components, a plenty of melodic moments, the landscape-nihilism-whatever-feeling, the abrasive voice and both the desperation and distorsion within their tunes. Looking forward to see them live with Ash Borer on the 9th of april. If they continue like that they could probably be the new deafheaven.

Deuil - Acceptance/Rebuild

Deuil (“mourning” in french) from Liège/Belgium play a more sludgy and doomy version of apolitical and atheist black metal with some shoegaze elements which is very interesting. If Austere would do a cover of a Explosions in the sky song with Sunn O))) it would almost sound like Deuil. A really really hefty and powerful band. I can’t even describe how intense this record is. This constant contorted riffs combined with great vocals have leave me absolute speechless. “Acceptance” instantly made the way into my “best-of-2013” list. (also the sound-snippet fits so fucking perfect). “Rebuild” ends up in a tempest and heavy fin after building up for almost 7 minutes. Massive. Just ultra-massive. They even recorded everything live to have the most authentic and honest athmosphere. This is so rad.

World Is Hollow And These Hands Have Touched The Sky - ftwihathhtts. rad. sooo nice. A really awesome 4-piece raw and very emotional screamo band from Southampton - South Coast, UK. They played their first show back in march 2011 and since that date they released a tour demo, a live recording and a cool split with Manbearpig, Cavalcades & Nai Harvest (Far Away Friends). A new record called “Ghost Columns and Transparency” should be out in some weeks, which is great. I love this fucked up, kinda lo-fi sounding (on the summer tape) and harsh screamo in the veins of I wrote haikus or Jeromes Dream. It always hits right deep in the middle of your heart and immediately throws it through your chest. The intensity is immense and always sensible like in “Stolen Trees” or “Untitled #4”. Ftwihathhtts’s sound is often very very infectious, shattering and stirring.

“These vitamins aren’t working again. All these holes I like best. Son of a bitch - “can’t relate” The camera points to zero. woven into to bones it makes, it makes it fit. The bastard - Typewriter’s keys. The bastard I’m just a bitter atlas (dragging you in)” (Old religion)

Also the 2 songs re-recorded of the split and the new song called “The Devil, The Deceiver” are a massive proceeding concerning the recording quality. “Ghost Columns and Transparency” could be a huge success in that little scene. All in all…For This World Is Hollow And These Hands Have Touched The Sky is a band to keep an eye on. Love them, share them…whatever. I dig their stuff completely and I wish them all the best for the future. Highly recommended. Can’t wait to hear the new stuff.

██████ - Aside from the fact that they have the best band name ever, they’re also very talented. The band caught my attention some while ago (november/december 2012) because they are going to support AmenRa in Berlin in May (really looking forward to this). The “Live @ Bikepunx Session” was uploaded on their bandcamp at this time and yeah it was awesome but I totally forgot to make blog post about it. Some time passed…and well…last night on my way home with the train I’ve listened to their new demo for the first time. It. was. overwhelming. Hope you’ll like them too. ██████ are a 5-piece screamo/post-hardcore and ambient influenced black metal/sludge outfit from Plzeň, Czech republic founded in 2011. Kinda like a crushing hybrid of bands such as WITTR, Austere, Vestiges and Burn Her Letters. The sound is ponderous but yet very engaging, very intense and sorta mesmerizing. For such a relative new band they are pretty good at building up beautiful atmospheres and sound-landscapes. The lyrics are about the personal feelings of some members and written in czech. So if you love strong and heavy emotional stuff check them out.

No Omega - Ohhhhhhh man. What a great mind-blowing record. New album by No Omega called Shame, released on one of the best and hardest working hardcore/punk/metal labels around: Throatruiner Records (Birds in Row, Primitive Man, Pigeon and As We Draw). Founded back in 2010 Stockholm based dark-hardcore outfit is going to be one of the highlights 2013 in modern hardcore. Ultra-heavy, furious but yet emotional and heartfelt blend of hardcore, post-metal, sludge and crust between hate and angst. Packed in a constructive, vibrant, thrilling sound-wall of blasting drums and pretty pretty good vocals. In correspondence with the lyrics, the artwork, the whole passion…this is a album you really shouldn’t miss. These 12 tracks in almost 31 minutes will shattering you down and leave you stunned. Try to imagine Cursed, Hexis, Killing The Dream and Touche Amore would be doin’ a massive live set together and you can conceive a little bit more of what to expect. I’m pretty impressed. Going to see them live in April with This Gift is a cvrse. Fuck yeah. Thanks again to Throatruiner. Support them and stay rad.
